Margaret Dunbar was James Forten's niece. She was born while James spent a year in London. On June 20, 1806, James walked her down the aisle in Gloria Dei Church. She married 24 year old George Lewis. George worked for James in his sail loft. Historians are not sure when Margaret Dunbar died but suspect that she died on February 27, 1852 at the age of 64. The Board of Health records note the death of an African-American woman by the name of Margaret Lewis, but the name was a common one at the time.
