(about 1786-1852) James Forten's nephew was born around 1786. He married a free black woman named Jane. By 1810, he was heading a household of six. Nicholas followed in his father's footsteps and became a sailor, although seafaring did not agree with him. In 1816, he deserted from the ship Mary in St. Croix, abandoning his wife and children. After that, information disappears from the historical records. |
