Welcome! In this education program, students will develop an understanding of daily life in 18th century Philadelphia by exploring the people, material culture, and larger historical context related to four specific households. Teachers should use the lesson plans to help their students to investigate both primary and secondary sources, and to discuss their importance to historians. Students will develop into historians as they use the information presented through this web site in conjunction with the guided lessons to find out more about their households and their 18th century Philadelphia community. The lesson plans are to be completed before your visit to Independence National Historical Park. When students arrive at the park, they will experience a hands-on, interactive, ranger-led program; after which they will explore the park sites related to their learning, especially the Todd House and the Bishop White House. We hope that you and your students enjoy learning about life in 18th century Philadelphia through this education program. We’d love to hear your feedback, as we are always striving to improve our programs and curriculum materials. Thank you, |
