Summer 2005 Teachers' Institute: This year 25 teachers will participate in "Benjamin Franklin and the American People", a two week program funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and sponsored by the Independence Park Institute and Penn State Capital College. Application deadline was March 25, 2005 for the workshop. (No further applications will be accepted).

Summer 2006 Teachers' Institute: This summer 20 lucky 4th-8th grade educators will get to participate in a one-week workshop on "Daily Life and Diversity in 18th Century Philadelphia." Application deadline was March 31, 2006. (No further applications will be accepted.)

Summer 2007 Teachers' Institute (pdf) / Summer 2007 Teachers' Institute (doc): In July 2007, Independence National Historical Park will host a one-week workshop that will enable K-12th grade teachers to understand the Liberty Bell as a symbol. This institute will prepare teachers to use historic documents and images to enhance their teaching and to inspire students with the stories that make history come alive in the classroom and beyond. This institute is limited to twenty participants. The application deadline is March 30, 2007.

Summer 2008 Teachers' Institute (pdf) / Summer 2008 Teachers' Institute (doc) : In July 2008, Independence National Historical Park will host a one-week workshop that will enable 4th-12th grade teachers to discover how historians and archeologists piece together the lives of everyday Philadelphia citizens through the artifacts they left behind. Participants will learn what archeology is and what it is not. They will go through the archeological process, discover what historians can learn through archeology, and what is done with the new information. Educators will get to interact with historians, archeologists, curators, museum educators, and other professionals in the field. This institute is limited to twenty participants. The application deadline is March 28, 2008.
